A semifinal of great couples took the floor on the electric Saturday night at Kings Ball. Our local area is blessed with having so many great couples at our doorstep, which made for a hard job for us judges.

A Kingly Contest! Kings’ Ball 2015

Report by Keith Todd

This was my first ever trip to the Kings’ Ball which was held this year December 4th  - 6th in the Hilton Meadowlands, NJ.  This hotel has the advantage of being close to New York City and Newark Airport, in fact only about eight miles from the Holland Tunnel and Manhattan, but far enough out that the high prices of the city are not so noticeable.

1.  Haritonovs/Haritonova (1,1,2,2,2) Latvia

Very Lucky Winners.  They won by their second places with one mark.  A close race with the runners-up.  They showed good technical quality and kept their bodies centered.  The understanding of the musical swing must be improved.

The 2015 WDC World Professional 10 Dance Championship was held on October 30th and 31st at the magnificient Ritz-Carlton in the city of Key Biscayne, Miami, Florida.  The Grand National Championship organizers, Peter & Cassandra Schneider and their team, must be congratulated for their outstanding organization. It was the 3rd time in history that the USA has been honored to host this exciting event and it was a privilege for me to be a part of it as one of the World Adjudicators.

What can I say about the Ohio Star Ball being one of the largest events in the country running like a well-oiled machine from start to finish. The amount of talent that gathers at this event is exciting and totally electric for spectators and competitors alike.

Professional Rhythm

The professional competition in the American Rhythm category was small enough. Only 11 pairs started in the semifinal. There is an advantage of such small competitions in that judges have the ability to look at and analyze couples more closely.

Is It All About the People?

Ohio Star Ball 2015

I always wonder what makes an exciting event.  Is it the dancing or is it the amount of people that attend that make you come back over and over again? I think perhaps it might be a little bit of both, especially when an event is starting to make its reputation. However, at the end like at the Ohio Star Ball, the amount of people attending brings an energy to any event that is hard to replicate with anything else.

The 2015 World 10 Dance was held in Key Biscayne Florida at the wonderfully organized Grand National Dance Championships. The venue was exquisite and the organizers payed the upmost attention to every fine detail that an event of this stature deserves. A huge “congratulations” must go out to Peter and Cassandra Schneider for organizing a flawless event and one that the United States can be very proud of.
