Amateur Haven: Atlanta Ballroom Challenge 2016

What an event the Atlanta Ballroom Challenge turned out to be. The 2016 edition of the Atlanta Ballroom Challenge was a complete makeover from the previous years. The event moved to downtown Atlanta to the new W Midtown hotel. This new location sure made it easier for the out of town participants to arrive at the new venue. The competitors would take the MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Area Transit Authority) train from the Atlanta airport directly to the Arts Center station and walk two blocks to hotel.

Sunning & Funning in the Desert! Desert Classic 2016

It has been a couple of years since I attended the Desert Classic Dancesport Championships, organized by Igor & Irina Suvorov. This year it was back in the spectacular JW Marriott in Palm Desert, CA. This hotel has undergone some major renovations since I was last here, in fact the last time I attended Desert Classic it was held at a different resort as the JW was undergoing those renovations.

Yankee Classic Open Professional Rhythm

Congratulations to John and Cathy Nyemchek on a very successful competition. It was a great event with wonderful atmosphere and fantastic dancing. The Open Professional Rhythm was danced on Saturday night and had a semifinal round. This season I had a chance to see most of the couples at the a lot of competitions and was pleased to notice all the improvements and new things they put into their work.

A Night to Remember

Dance Legends Slavik Kryklyvvy and Karina Smirnoff, with close friends Justinas Duknauskas and Anna Kovalova, came up with a vision to remind people that dancing is universal, with no boundaries. That in a loving and open environment, dance is magical and transforming. It can breathe new life into a tired soul; unleash locked away creativity; unite generations and cultures; trigger long forgotten memories; turn sadness into joy, if only during the dance.
