In my opinion, as one of the last competitions of the calendar year, the Holiday Classic grew to its current status of one of the largest competitions in the USA by promoting the “Party” atmosphere of the season.  Some of the farewell parties of yesteryear are still remembered with awe.

Las Vegas – and particularly the Holliday Dance Classic is always a magnet - for dancers, spectators … and judges too.

This year the weather everywhere on the east coast caused the organizers some distress I am sure, with PRO/AMs, couples and adjudicators delayed and re-routed from different airports in the east at the beginning of the event. But the snow - eh - show must go on and so it did, with a beautifully decorated ballroom and charming organizers that are true professionals in every sense of the word. Sometimes size matters!  This year’s U.S. National Amateur Latin Championships took over Provo, Utah’s gargantuan Marriott Center, one of the three largest campus arenas in the nation: over 10,000 seats bursting with enthusiasm, vibrating with excitement, and thrumming with anticipation.

This year’s Millennium DanceSport Championships has attracted over 1400 adults with its revolutionary Candyland theme, but the real treat was saved for young athletes who received an experience like never before.

This past weekend was all about the City Lights Star Tours!  Over $100,000.00 will be awarded between 2 styles over 5 competitions. $50,000.00 to the City Lights Star Ballroom Tour and $50,000.00 for the City Lights Star Rhythm Tour. The first leg of the City Lights Star Ballroom Tour took place at the Yankee Classic Saturday, June 20th and the City Lights Star Rhythm Tour Sunday June 21st. There are still 4 legs to go but the excitement is already building up.

“The Champions Ball” the biggest Pro/am competition outside North America, now associated with and sponsored by Daikin Air Conditioning, continues its course of brilliantly presented Pro/Am dancing and competition.
