The International Latin division began with a quarterfinal and this was reduced to a semifinal of 12. As at all Star Tour events, the audience in the ballroom and at home watching the live stream gets the chance to select a “wildcard” couples from this semifinal to present a solo along with the finalists. 4 of the semifinalists have not competed in any previous legs of the tour so elected not to be included. This left 2 couples, Hayk Balasanyan & Emila Poghosyan and Sasha Althukov & Cheyenne Murillo fighting for the votes. And how close it was!! With almost 2,500 votes being cast, Hayk & Emilia squeaked to a narrow victory.

The top four placements in the Open Pro Latin also elected not to perform solos, so that left 5th placed Artur Tarnavskyy & Anastasia Danilova and 6th placed Dmitry & Olena Nikishkin to contest the solo with Hayk & Emilia. It proved to be Hayk & Emilia’s day. They won the solo from the judges’ scores receiving 87.43. They also won the audience vote for their solo with 27.5 points, this combined with their 3 points for being the wildcard gave them a total of 117.93 and the win.

Dmitry & Olena placed 2nd overall. They received 5 points from their freestyle performance, placed 3rd in the solo with 82.71 and 2nd with the audience with 21.5 for a total of 109.21. Artur & Anastasia received 10 points for their freestyle, 86.71 for their solo but were a distant 3rd with the audience at 1.5 points giving them a total of 98.21.

In the overall tour Dmitry & Olena are still in the lead, but Hyak & Emila have narrowed the gap. Artur & Anastasia remain in 3rd place. Leg 7 of this tour is next week at Caribbean Dancesport – be sure to tune in and vote next Friday!

Troels Bager & Ina Jeliazkova were the winners of the Open Pro Latin winning all 5 dances. 2nd went to Nikolai Voronovich & Maria Nikolishina, again in all dances. Mykhalio Bilopukhom & Anastasiia Shchypilina were 3rd with 3,3,4,4,3; Andrey Tarasov & Yuliya Kuznetsova were 4th 4,4,3,3,4; Artur & Anastasia were 5th in all and Dmitry & Olena were 6th in all.

Hollywood Dancesport, organized by Michael Chapman, Mary Murphy & Jonathan Roberts is huge this year and everyone seems to be having a great time.
