The Crown Jewell of Dancesport
The Crown Jewel of the Triple Crown series of competitions was going on this weekend at the Turnberry Isle Hotel and Resort in Aventura Florida. Gorgeous location, first class service, like all Triple Crown events. I will tell you more at length later, but want to catch you up on the highlights of the comp.
Open Rhythm winners were Nazar Norrov & Irina Kudryashova, it was an easy victory for them, first in all dances. No more ruffled skirt for Irina, she was wearing a new style dress which looked beautiful on her. Also sporting a new look was second place couple, Stephen Smyth & Viktoriya Kleyman. Viktoriya wore her hair down and looked very free. 3rd place to Sandor Shtefil & Aleksandra Barsukov.
Open Theater Arts went to a newer couple fron NY, Daniel Enskat & Ahoy Wonpat-Borja. Ahoy is a lovely dancer full of grace and lovely to watch, Daniel lifts her very easily but could use some help with movement.
Open Showdance was awarded to Kyle & Allie Spinder who have been climbing up lately and very deservedly. They have strong technical skills in Ballroom, a lost art these days, and a clean presentation. They also won the Open Smooth, but came in 2nd in the RS to Sergy Barsukov & Maria Sidnjova. I'll tell you more in this as well later.
The RS Rhythm winners were Vicente Martinez & Megan Murphy they won all dances and 2nd place went to Shador Shtefil & Alexandra Barsukov.
A fun event took place in the ballroom Saturday night as part of the "Expect the Unexpected" theme of Triple Crown events. A mixed Pro comp where dancers have to try on a new partner and do not know which dance they will be performing. We have seen quite a few interestings partnerships and moves over the past year but last night was a lot of fun watching Sergy Barsukov and Vladmir Kosarev taking turns leading in Bolero and Mambo to go on and win $1,000! You can watch for yourselves ...
Always a great weekend with Larry and Dianne Dean, their next competition is Florida State in Sarasota July 29- August 3rd, I won't miss it!
