Back to our Roots! The Cuba International Ballroom Championship 2016

Ask most dancers which country they associate most with the Latin American Dances and the answer 90% of the time will be “Cuba.”  While it is true that samba originated in Brazil, paso doble in France and the jive in USA, it is the Cuban music of the mid 20th century that still fuels much of our competitive Latin dancing to this day. But for most of us living in the USA, the country of Cuba remains mostly a mystery thanks to the embargo policy reaching back to the 1960’s.

First of all I would like to thank Didio and Keith for asking me to write this article for the Millennium Dancesport Championships. This was an absolutely amazing event: gorgeous ballroom, great quality dancing, world class judging panel and fantastic show!

    Do you Believe in Magic?

“Do you believe in magic?” was this year’s them for the Millennium Dancesport Championships and how can you not, being so close to the “Magic Kingdom.” This year’s big move from Tampa, Florida to Orlando, Florida was a big move by the organizer (Michael Chapman) for the Millennium Dancesport Championships, but as if it was orchestrated with a wand the move went nice and easy with out a hitch.
