Last night was the first “official” stop for the Star International Latin Tour here at Yankee Classic.

These past five years dancing and competing have been some of the most colorful, exciting, and rewarding moments in my life. I had no idea when I began a few years ago, in a small Arlington, Virginia studio with Mike Baris, that it would take off in such a fantastic way. Or that its importance to me would be so profound, or that the people I would meet would soon become considerably important to me on many levels.

US couples continue to lead, but this time in the Ballroom field.

Last night at the American Star Ball the first leg of the Star Smooth Tour took place, from beginning to end it was full of excitement and when it came to the end result the people gave the unexpected winners the edge.

This month’s Pro-Am Spotlight is one of Canada’s most successful pro-am competitors, Joanne Kay Smith, from Toronto.  Joanne’s specialty is American Smooth and together with teacher and professional partner Sharon Levitt, she has won almost all major pro-am championships in the USA including Ohio Star Ball.

And it was just as well, because Saturday was a marathon at the Atlanta Open!

#2’s On Top

Our nation’s number twos were on top last night at Emerald Ball. Nazar Norov & Irina Kudryashova won the Open Pro Rhythm and Victor Fung & Anastasia Muravyeva won the Open Pro Ballroom, both couples are currently ranked second in the USA and the world in their respective divisions.

Russia Has Rhythm!

Nearly every year we have been quite fortunate to be able to attend the Champions Ball in Moscow, Russia. This competition is the biggest pro-am event outside the United States with over 6 thousand entries.
